Hello everyone! Sending out an urgent request!
Our kennels and cages are full. It has been a year of increased stray animals coming into HSEC. Our staff does a fantastic job getting animals into rescue and adoptive homes. Unfortunately, we are running out of room now, and it is critical to get some animals adopted or into foster homes to make room for animals coming into the shelter. We encourage community members to meet our animals and consider adopting or fostering animals.
There is also a 2nd part of our request. We have a pet food pantry program to provide pet food to Elkhart County community members in need. The demands for assistance have been crazy. We have had 622 requests for help since the beginning of the year, with 490 of these pets since June 1. Keeping animals in their
homes with their families will also help us reduce the number of animals being surrendered to HSEC. We have depleted our food supply for community assistance and need to restock. We are asking for donations of any brands/sizes of dry cat and dog food to help keep up with the increased requests.
Through Monday, October 31, we are waiving adoption fees on all animals with the donation of dry cat or dog food for our Pet Food Pantry. If you prefer, we are lowering the adoption fee to $5 for all available adoption animals. Additional cash donations can be sent through our website. Cat and dog food can be purchased through your favorite online supplier or dropped off at our shelter.
As always, we thank everyone for their support; please share our request. It takes a team to keep the animals safe!
